Seller: cdk2003 (99) 0%, Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Ships to: CA, Item: 272126172174 This rare phonograph player is reconditioned with original parts except for the green mat replica on the platter where records are placed for playing. Requires Victor records from the 1908 era for playback (not included). A hand crank is used to spin the record in motion and the sound is reproduced through the large wooden horn. The horn extends about 21.5 inches at its widest opening, and the horn is about 25 inches long. Both the phonograph and the horn are in excellent condition with the original victor logo on the phonograph itself as well as the wooden horn. A large part of what gives this phonograph its value is the rare and exceptional condition of the big wooden horn. Comes with several phonograph needles and two needle holders. Each needle is only good for ten plays of a record before the needle wears out as this was the current state of the technology at the time. This was an "advancement" as earlier phonograph needles could only play a record once after which it wore out and a new phonograph needle had to be inserted into the phonograph playing arm. Later on, the phonograph industry developed phonographs with playing needles that were permanent and did not need to be replaced. So this phonograph is in the middle of that progressive development. Note that I removed the detachable horn for some of the photographs to illustrate the main body of the phonograph more clearly.
